Questions about the Victorian Points Test
What is the Victorian Points Test?
The Victorian Points Test (VPT) is the scoring system Victoria uses to rank Registrations of Interest (ROIs) for state nomination of the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). It adds up seven weighted factors: age, English language, years of experience in the nominated occupation, educational qualification, occupation skill level, partner skill and annual earnings from skilled employment in Victoria.
What is the highest possible VPT score?
The maximum is 950 points: 300 for age, 200 for English, 100 for experience, 100 for education, 50 for occupation skill level, 50 for partner skill and 150 for annual earnings in Victoria.
Is there a pass mark for the Victorian Points Test?
No. Unlike SkillSelect, the VPT has no fixed pass mark. In each invitation round Victoria invites the ROIs with the highest VPT totals, either across all eligible occupations or within each priority industry.
Do I still need 65 points in SkillSelect?
Yes. You must meet the Australian Government visa requirements as well, which includes scoring at least 65 on the SkillSelect points test. For the 190 visa that total includes 5 nomination points, and for the 491 visa it includes 15.
How do I get the 50 partner points?
All three conditions must be true: you claimed 10 points for Partner Skills in your SkillSelect EOI, your partner will be included in your state nominated visa application, and your partner's occupation is a current priority industry occupation. Applicants who are single or have an Australian partner receive 0 for this factor.
Which industries are prioritised in 2026-27?
Healthcare, social assistance, education and construction. Education and construction are split into subgroups: teachers, early childhood education, construction professionals and construction trades.
What does a Victorian ROI cost in 2026-27?
From the 2026-27 program year a Registration of Interest costs $60 plus GST ($66) and a 190 or 491 nomination application costs $180 plus GST ($198). The ROI fee is charged once per program year.
Does a high score guarantee an invitation?
No. Invitations depend on how your total compares with the other ROIs in the pool at the time of each round and on the number of nomination places available. Victoria does not prioritise invitations based on personal circumstances such as age or visa expiry.
Is this calculator migration advice?
No. The calculator is for general information and education only. It is not migration advice, legal advice or immigration assistance, it may contain errors, and the rules can change at any time. Your actual score is decided by the Victorian Government and the Department of Home Affairs based on the claims and evidence you provide. Speak with a registered migration agent or an Australian legal practitioner about your situation.
Is anything I enter saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you select is sent to a server, and there are no cookies, analytics or trackers on this site.
