How the Victorian Points Test works

Victoria ranks every Registration of Interest for 190 and 491 nomination with the Victorian Points Test. Here is the full table, factor by factor, as published for the 2026-27 program.

The VPT combines seven weighted factors into one total out of 950. It is calculated from the information in your SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) and your Victorian Registration of Interest (ROI), and Victoria ranks ROIs from highest to lowest. Victoria says the test prioritises younger, highly qualified applicants with higher levels of English.

Age

Age carries the most weight, up to 300 points. The top score applies from 20 to 29, then falls each year until 44.

Partner skill

You receive 50 points only when all three of these are true:

  • You have claimed 10 points for Partner Skills in your SkillSelect EOI.
  • Your partner will be included in your state nominated visa application.
  • Your partner's occupation is a current priority industry occupation.

If you are single, have an Australian partner, or do not meet all three, this factor is 0.

How invitations are issued

Applicants in all eligible occupations can submit an ROI, and every ROI is ranked with the VPT. In each invitation round Victoria invites:

  • the highest VPT totals across all eligible occupations in the pool at that time, and
  • the highest VPT totals within each priority industry or industry subgroup.

There is no fixed pass mark, so outcomes depend on how competitive the pool is in each round. Victoria does not publish how individual scores compare, cannot tell you your likelihood of an invitation, and does not prioritise invitations for personal circumstances such as age or the expiry of a visa or document.

You must also meet the Australian Government's visa requirements, including at least 65 points on the SkillSelect points test.
