This calculator is for general information and education only. It is not migration advice, legal advice or immigration assistance, and it can make mistakes or fall out of date when the rules change. Your real score depends on the claims and evidence in your EOI and ROI, and only the Victorian Government and the Department of Home Affairs can decide it.

About the SkillSelect points test

What is the pass mark for the SkillSelect points test?

The minimum score for the Skilled Independent (189), Skilled Nominated (190) and Skilled Work Regional (491) visas is 65 points. Points are assessed at the time you are invited to apply.

How many points does state nomination add?

Nomination for the subclass 190 visa adds 5 points. Nomination by a state or territory, or sponsorship by an eligible family member, for the subclass 491 visa adds 15 points.

Is skilled employment capped?

Yes. Overseas and Australian skilled employment together can add no more than 20 points, and only the last 10 years count.

Is the points test changing?

The Australian Government announced in the May 2026 Budget that it plans to reform the points test to favour younger, more highly skilled applicants. No new points table has been released, so this calculator uses the table in force today.
